In the normal print set-up process we always check the file and we guarantee that we will not print a print that we think is going to fail. In the event of a problem we will show it to you and explain what we think should be done. We offer you the choice of correcting the problem yourself or asking us to correct it for you though we do charge for this service. However it's your call, you can ask us to go ahead and print it anyway if you see it as satisfactory to print.
Problems can be varied but range from a dust and particles that haven't been removed from the scan to color space problems and issues with resolution. Please see our file set up guide for details on how to prepare your files for printing. Photoshop services are charged at $75 per hour (half hour minimum) to correct any issues.
All files are proofed free of charge so before printing a giclee a test print is made on proofing stock. This a reliable, inexpensive method of previewing how a file will look on paper as opposed to on a screen.
Two types of proof are made; one where the full image is printed at a reduced size to check overall color and contrast, and a second proof for larger works where a section of the image is printed at 100% to check for pixelation and resolution issues.
To keep your costs down full sized proofs are rarely made on the final paper unless the artist demands it, in which case they can be charged for at 50% of the price of a normal giclee. However we often do it for a single print out of a larger body of giclees being printed as the size of the investment in time and resources warrants an extra layer of caution.
If an artist or photographer wishes to develop a giclee print using multiple proof prints then we will move to the printmaking format and proofing costs will vary accordingly.
