In the normal print set-up process we always check the file and we guarantee that we will not print a print that we think is going to fail. In the event of a problem we will show it to you and explain what we think should be done. We offer you the choice of correcting the problem yourself or asking us to correct it for you though we do charge for this service. However it's your call, you can ask us to go ahead and print it anyway if you see it as satisfactory to print.
All files are proofed twice! First on screen then with a test print made on our proofing stock. This a reliable, inexpensive method of previewing how a file will look on paper not just on a screen.
Two types of printed proof are made; one where the full image is printed at a reduced size to check overall color and contrast, and a second proof for larger works where a section of the image is printed at 100% to check for focus and resolution. The first round of these proofs are free when done as part of the process of making a final print. Full sized proofs on the final paper are rarely needed so to keep costs down we dont make them unless the artist demands it. In which case they will be charged for at 50% of the price of the final giclee print.
If an artist or photographer wishes to develop a giclee print using multiple proof prints then we will move to the print-making format and proofing costs will vary accordingly.
File problems can be varied but range from simple dust and blemishes that haven't been removed from a scan to color casts, focus or resolution issues. We do all our retouching in house and straightforward photoshop services such as minor corrections, sharpening and upresing of files are charged for at $75 per hour (0.25 hour minimum). We can also take on complex montaging, art creation and restoration projects for which our expert rate is $150 per hour though we offer a discount for bulk work. Please ask us for an estimate.
